Job summary

Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) seeks an experienced Drainage Excavator Operator for the Norfolk, VA area. The role supports the HRBT Expansion Project by operating heavy excavation equipment to install drainage systems, trench and grade to project specs, and coordinate with ground crews on a busy infrastructure site.

Candidates should have 2+ years of excavator experience in drainage or civil construction, read construction drawings, and hold valid operator certification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating excavators in drainage or civil construction.
• Knowledge of trenching, shoring, and safe excavation practices.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and grade requirements.
• Valid equipment operator certification/license as required.
• Commitment to working safely as part of a team.
• Preferred: 5+ years’ experience operating excavators in heavy civil, drainage or utility projects.
• Experience with GPS or laser-guided excavation systems.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
• Experience in high-traffic or restricted-access construction zones.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate excavators to dig trenches and prepare foundations for drainage systems.
• Excavate to precise grades and slopes in accordance with project specifications.
• Assist with installation of drainage pipes, culverts, manholes, and related structures.
• Coordinate with ground crews and follow direction from site supervisors.
• Maintain awareness of underground utilities and adhere to all excavation safety procedures.
• Perform daily inspections of equipment, reporting any maintenance needs.
• Follow HRBT Expansion Project safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
• Other duties as assigned or requested.
