  • Strong writing, reporting, and design document review skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; PE license preferred.

Role Description The Drainage and Water Resources Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago, IL, responsible for leading drainage and water resources planning, design, and project delivery. This role oversees technical analyses related to stormwater management, flood control, water quality, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, ensuring projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations. The manager coordinates multidisciplinary teams, mentors staff, and reviews design documents, reports, and calculations to maintain technical quality and consistency. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with clients and stakeholders, developing project scopes and budgets, supporting proposal development, and managing schedules and resources. The role also involves identifying improvement opportunities, supporting innovation in water resource solutions, and contributing to best practices and standards across the firm.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in drainage design, stormwater management, and water resources planning and engineering.
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, GIS-based analysis) and related design software.
  • Experience leading projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Strong skills in technical writing, report preparation, and reviewing design plans, specifications, and calculations.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, permitting processes, and industry standards related to drainage and water resources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage clients, agencies, and internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Relevant experience in municipal, transportation, or infrastructure projects; prior leadership or supervisory experience is beneficial.
