Job summary

Stanley Consultants in the United States is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our Minneapolis, MN, Chicago, IL, or Muscatine, IA team. You will lead hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks, mentor staff, and deliver projects on time and within budget in a collaborative, hybrid work setting.

An eight‑plus year track record, a PE license, and experience with HEC‑RAS, PCSWMM, and AutoCAD Civil 3D are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Licensed Professional (PE) Engineer.
  • Varied software experience including 1‑D and 2‑D hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, HydroCAD or other modeling software.
  • Strong verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Excellent team leadership skills.
  • Open to active participation in professional organizations.
  • Experience with AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation.
  • Experience in site grading design, surface runoff management, detention design, conveyance.

We are a team of water resource, geotechnical, structural, and civil engineers that deliver water resource engineering projects focused on hydraulic and hydrologic systems, stormwater management and treatment, navigation, flood risk reduction, riverine restoration, and site improvement projects, for clients nationally and globally. We are seeking motivated candidates who are passionate about water and who love working in a highly collaborative environment on challenging projects to join our Minneapolis team.

Stanley Consultants is currently seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer at one of our office locations in either Minneapolis, MN (preferable), Chicago IL, or Muscatine, IA.

Your responsibilities will include leading a team of engineers in the technical analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of existing and proposed river and site, design, preparation of construction documents, reports, and cost estimates for water resources, Federal, environmental, structural, and energy projects. Project development including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, 1‑D and 2‑D river and flood modeling, ponding and detention area sizing and design, streambank stabilization, civil design layout, , grading and drainage, utility layout and design, and low impact development feature layout and design. Project management skills and the ability to work directly with clients in the development of projects are desirable.

Some field work and domestic and international travel may be required. Our ideal candidate would also be comfortable with leading and mentoring a team of younger engineers and technical staff.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your career towards task management, project management, and/or team managerial responsibilities.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Lead the preparation of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks, including set up of models, guiding the team during a modeling effort, and review of modeling work prepared by others on the team.
  • Work in collaboration with other disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C, structural, and CAD) in producing plans and specifications.
  • Consistently managing and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Desire and ability to manage and mentor staff.
  • Participation in local professional organizations, preparing, and presenting market specific papers and presentations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience.
