Job summary

Burns & McBride in New Castle, DE is seeking a Drain Technician to launch a new drain service line. You will diagnose problems, operate drain and sewer equipment, and present solutions to homeowners, with uncapped commissions and growth opportunities as the first dedicated technician.

The role emphasizes building the department, delivering quality service, and collaborating with the team to set standards and processes for the growing business.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on drain-clearing experience.
• Strong residential drain and sewer diagnostic skills.
• Experience with cable machines, hydro-jetting equipment, and sewer cameras.
• Proven ability to explain recommendations and sell drain and sewer services.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform residential drain cleaning, clearing, cabling, and hydro-jetting.
• Diagnose drain and sewer issues throughout the home and from the home to the curb.
• Operate small- and large-sized drain machines and sewer camera equipment.
• Identify blockages, damaged piping, root intrusion, and other drain or sewer concerns.
• Recommend repair, replacement, or additional service options.
• Explain findings and solutions clearly to homeowners.
• Present estimates and obtain customer approval before completing work.
• Identify additional drain or plumbing solutions that meet customer needs.
• Complete accurate service notes, photos, estimates, and customer documentation.
• Maintain truck inventory, tools, and equipment.
• Protect customers’ homes and maintain a clean, professional work area.
• Communicate effectively with customers, office staff, and other field team members.
• Participate in technical training, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.

Pay: $30 - $35/hr plus uncapped commissions and bonuses

Burns & McBride is growing, and we’re looking for our first dedicated Drain & Sewer Technician to help launch and build this new service line.

We started as an HVAC company, added a Plumbing department this year, and we’re now expanding again by adding a dedicated Drain division to better serve our existing customer base. This role is a chance to get in early, bring your experience to the table, and help shape how drain and sewer service is delivered as the department grows.

We’re looking for an experienced drain professional who can confidently diagnose problems, operate professional drain and sewer equipment, communicate well with homeowners, and recommend the right solutions based on what the customer actually needs.

What You’ll Do

• Perform residential drain cleaning, clearing, cabling, and hydro-jetting.
• Diagnose drain and sewer issues throughout the home and from the home to the curb.
• Operate small- and large-sized drain machines and sewer camera equipment.
• Identify blockages, damaged piping, root intrusion, and other drain or sewer concerns.
• Recommend appropriate repair, replacement, or additional service options.
• Explain findings and solutions clearly to homeowners.
• Present estimates and obtain customer approval before completing work.
• Identify additional drain or plumbing solutions that meet customer needs.
• Perform related plumbing service work when qualified, including removing and resetting toilets and P-traps.
• Complete accurate service notes, photos, estimates, and customer documentation.
• Maintain truck inventory, tools, and equipment.
• Protect customers’ homes and maintain a clean, professional work area.
• Communicate effectively with customers, office staff, and other field team members.
• Participate in technical training, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on drain-clearing experience
• Strong residential drain and sewer diagnostic skills.
• Experience working on systems from inside the home to the curb.
• Experience with cable machines, hydro-jetting equipment, and sewer cameras.
• Proven ability to explain recommendations and sell appropriate drain and sewer services.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Solid understanding of residential plumbing and drain systems.
• Residential service plumbing experience is a strong plus.
• Ability to independently manage service calls from diagnosis through completion.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable using tablets, mobile apps, and field service software. Service Titan experience a plus!
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to perform physical work in basements, crawl spaces, bathrooms, and outdoor environments.
