Actalent is seeking a Drafter/Designer in Carson, CA to transform concepts into detailed 3D models and production-ready drawings for electromechanical products. You will use SolidWorks or comparable CAD tools to collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout development, validation, and documentation.
The role emphasizes creating and revising 3D parts and 2D drawings, applying GD&T, managing ECOs, and maintaining precise records and BOMs within established procedures.

As a Drafter/Designer, you will transform concepts into detailed 3D models and production-ready drawings that drive the development of innovative electromechanical products. Using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software, you'll collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to refine designs, implement engineering changes, maintain critical documentation, and support product validation from concept through production.
Perform basic mechanical design and drafting activities using SolidWorks or other approved CAD software.
Create and modify simple 3D parts, assemblies, and models under engineering guidance.
Create and revise 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, notes, views, and other required details.
Execute simple Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) based on engineering instructions and approved redlines.
Incorporate engineering changes into drawings, models, bills of materials, and related documentation.
Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with provided engineering standards.
Maintain organized CAD files and follow established file naming, revision, and document-control practices.
Update bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and related documentation as changes occur.
Maintain accurate revisions and engineering records for all assigned projects.
Support product obsolescence and supplier-change documentation by updating drawings and records.
Organize and perform assigned validation testing under engineering supervision.
Record test conditions, measurements, observations, and results in a clear and traceable manner.
Identify and communicate discrepancies or unexpected results observed during testing.
Compile test data and prepare concise technical reports for engineering review.
Maintain testing and validation records in accordance with established procedures.
Communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure alignment and clarity.
Perform other engineering-related activities as assigned to support project and departmental goals.
Proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software for mechanical design and drafting.
Ability to design and edit 3D parts, assemblies, and models for electromechanical products.
Ability to create and revise detailed 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, notes, and views.
Understanding and practical use of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in drawings.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and assembly instructions.
Experience working with engineering change orders (ECOs) and redline markups.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness of drawings and documentation.
Strong organizational skills to manage CAD files, revisions, and document control practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
Ability to follow technical instructions and established procedures consistently.
Experience supporting documentation for product obsolescence and supplier changes.
Familiarity with electromechanical products and related design considerations.
Ability to compile test data and prepare clear technical reports for engineering review.
Comfort working under engineering supervision on validation testing and related activities.
Ability to identify and communicate discrepancies or unexpected results in testing or documentation.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate engineering and testing records over time.
The Drafter / Designer works in a collaborative engineering environment that closely interfaces with manufacturing and quality teams. The role involves daily use of SolidWorks or comparable CAD software and other standard engineering tools to create and manage 3D models, 2D drawings, and documentation for electromechanical products. Work is typically performed in an office or engineering lab setting, with time spent at a computer for design tasks and in test or validation areas when supporting engineering tests. The environment emphasizes organized document control, clear communication, and adherence to established procedures and standards.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carson, CA.
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
