Job summary

Actalent seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop custom manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automated systems for complex production environments. You’ll be involved from concept through installation, testing, and production support, collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience, strong CAD/GD&T skills, and hands-on manufacturing exposure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in mechanical design, machine design, tooling, automation, or related.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD: CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with GD&T, detailed drawings, manufacturability.
  • Able to read mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic docs.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing environments.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.

Overview

Seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of custom manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and automated systems used in complex production environments. This role is involved throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development and design through installation, testing, and production support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, and industrial equipment for manufacturing applications.
  • Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Support projects from concept development through production implementation.
  • Perform engineering calculations and basic structural analysis to validate designs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, electrical, software, and project teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Support prototype builds, fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer requirements.
  • Manage engineering documentation, revision control, and design changes.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, suppliers, and field teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to design processes and product performance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical design, machine design, tooling, automation, industrial equipment, or related fields.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
  • Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and applying GD&T principles.
  • Familiarity with engineering calculations, structural design concepts, and design for manufacturability.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic documentation.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and production environments.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, or custom machinery.
  • Knowledge of FEA tools such as ANSYS, Femap, or equivalent software.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Hands-on fabrication, assembly, or machine shop exposure.
  • Experience supporting installation, testing, or commissioning activities.
  • Prior experience in highly regulated or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Redmond, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
