Job description

Job Title: CAD DesignerJob Description

The CAD Designer creates precise 2D and 3D models and detailed engineering drawings for aerospace components and deployable satellite systems using SolidWorks. This role focuses on drafting, mechanical design, and applying GD&T standards to support the development of solar arrays, antennas, and rotating mechanical assemblies for space applications.

Responsibilities
  • Develop accurate 2D and 3D models of aerospace components and assemblies using SolidWorks.

  • Produce detailed CAD drawings and engineering documentation that meet industry and project standards.

  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability of parts and assemblies.

  • Support the design and refinement of deployable systems such as solar arrays and antennas for satellites.

  • Create and update mechanical designs for rotating assemblies and membrane substrate structures used in space applications.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and project teams to translate design requirements into clear and manufacturable CAD models.

  • Review and revise drawings and models based on engineering feedback and design reviews.

  • Ensure all CAD files, drawings, and documentation are organized and maintained according to internal standards.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design and drafting practices within an agile aerospace environment.

Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for both 2D drafting and 3D modeling.

  • Hands-on experience with CAD drafting for mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application to engineering drawings.

  • Experience designing or drafting within the aerospace industry.

  • Ability to interpret engineering requirements and translate them into clear, accurate CAD models and drawings.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality technical documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in designing deployable systems such as solar arrays, antennas, or similar mechanical assemblies for satellites.

  • Familiarity with rotating mechanical assemblies and membrane substrate structures used in space applications.

  • Comfort working in a small, agile engineering team with direct communication and collaboration.

  • Ability to adapt to a growing organization and support scaling from smaller to larger satellite platforms and constellations.
