Job summary

The Town of Ludlow is seeking a Laborer to perform a range of manual tasks and operate power equipment for the Department of Public Works. This full-time role is 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, with possible evenings and weekends for construction projects and emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; experience or training preferred.
• Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
• Strong communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
• Ability to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies or weather events.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to maintain DPW garage and grounds.
• Operate small power equipment (weed trimmers, lawn mower, snow blower) and basic hand tools.
• Complete assignments at the Transfer Station, check permits, direct vehicles, and monitor trash.
• Relay information via two-way radio to DPW vehicles and field locations.
• Keep work areas clean; conduct safety checks; report equipment issues.
• Follow safety rules and vehicle laws when operating Town vehicles.
• Support emergency operations as First Responders to maintain public safety.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
