Job summary

The Town of Ludlow is seeking a PW3 Heavy Equipment Operator for the Department of Public Works. This is a full-time, 40-hours per week, benefited, union position with hours that may be irregular and include nights and weekends for construction projects and emergencies.

Responsibilities include operating vehicles and heavy equipment requiring MA Class B CDL and Hoisting Engineer’s licenses, adhering to safety rules, performing inspections, and assisting with snowplowing and emergencies as

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of Equipment Operator experience or equivalent training.
• Massachusetts Class B CDL with endorsements.
• Massachusetts Class 2B Hoisting Engineer’s License.
• Massachusetts Class 4G Side Boom Mower Hoisting Engineer’s License or ability to obtain within six months.
• Experience with sewer collection and sewage pump maintenance preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to work independently or in a crew; quick decision making in emergencies.
• Professional conduct representing the Town of Ludlow and DPW.

Responsibilities

• Operate vehicles and heavy equipment per supervisor instructions.
• Carry out safety inspections and report defects.
• Maintain equipment and operate during snowplowing and emergencies.
• Follow safety rules and local/state vehicle regulations.
• Keep work areas and vehicles clean and orderly.
• Perform general labor tasks as required by supervisor.
• Support all DPW divisions and act as First Responder when needed.
