Job summary

The City of Fayetteville seeks a Downtown & Urban Development Manager to lead Downtown Fayetteville’s economic vitality, placemaking, and public realm stewardship. You will coordinate cross-department efforts, foster private investment, and guide complex public/private partnerships to advance redevelopment and destination development.

You will also oversee strategic initiatives, manage downtown programs, and collaborate with stakeholders to improve safety, livability, and visitor experience

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in downtown management, economic development, redevelopment, planning, public administration, commercial real estate, community development, Main Street management, or closely related fields.
• Experience leading complex projects and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activity of downtown by facilitating engagement between the City and downtown entities.
• Serve as the City's primary coordinator for downtown revitalization, redevelopment, placemaking, and economic competitiveness.
• Develop and implement long-range strategic initiatives to increase downtown investment, business activity, residential development, tourism, and economic vitality.
• Recruit, retain, and assist restaurants, retailers, office users, entertainment venues, hospitality businesses, and other commercial enterprises.
• Manage all administrative aspects of the downtown program, including purchasing, record-keeping, budget development and accounting, reports for grants, and supervising staff or consultants.
• Identify redevelopment opportunities and work with developers, investors, brokers, property owners, and City departments.
• Coordinate implementation of downtown capital improvement projects including streetscapes, public spaces, lighting, gateways, public art, pedestrian amenities, parking, and beautification.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations.
• Coordinate with various city departments and external partners to improve downtown safety and quality-of-life.
• Represent the City before officials, boards, business groups, and the public.
• Develop marketing, branding, and destination development initiatives to strengthen downtown identity and regional competitiveness.
• Pursue and manage grant opportunities to advance downtown revitalization objectives.
• Maintain data systems to track progress including economic monitoring and growth metrics.
• Review downtown infrastructure regularly to ensure high maintenance standards.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration / Urban Planning / Business Administration / Economic Development / Architecture

Master's degree preferred

Certified Economic Developer (CEcD)

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)

Project Management Professional (PMP)

National Main Street Credential or equivalent downtown management credential
