  • Preferred: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Job description

Hiring Range: $71,409 - $91,047/Year D.O.Q.

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Development Ombudsman Manager to help the development community, city management, and all elected officials of the City to understand the full scope of regulatory impacts of all development within an urban area. Offer guidance and support to development applicants for new projects and re-development projects, assist all permitting and approval agencies with resolving issues, both while in design and during the development of properties within the City of Fayetteville.

  1. Work with the development community in assisting applicants for new projects and re-development projects throughout the City, offer guidance and support to all permitting and approval agencies with resolving issues, both while in design and during the development of properties within the City of Fayetteville.
  2. Provide, recommend, and present for approval development code updates and revisions to City ordinances.
  3. Establish regular communication with internal and external stakeholders to improve the quality of development and the development communities’ interests of certainty, quality, and timely resolution of development and redevelopment reviews and approvals within the City of Fayetteville.
  4. Provide qualitative and quantitative research in addressing development trends, issues, and other development activities to continue improvements for existing and future development.
  5. Ensure programs, processes and activities are in compliance with all City, state and federal laws and regulations.
  6. Present recommendations and serve as a resource to management and the City administration as well as boards, commissions, and City Council.
  7. Facilitate various public meetings and hearings related to development and planning programs and activities of the department in conjunction with other managers of the department; collaborate with the County planning department.
  8. Represent the Development Ombudsman program to other City departments, elected officials and outside agencies, coordinate activities with other departments and outside agencies and organizations; promptly and professionally respond to media inquiries, City administration and City Council concerns, issues, and community needs.
  9. Gather facts and data relating to concerns brought forward related to development matters and seek appropriate resolution.
  10. Actively engage with the development community, facilitating with agencies to provide support to streamline the development approval process.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Five years of experience as a public sector planning director, planning manager or related field and/or served in permit entitlement work or similar activities in the private sector.

Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, leadership, development, planning, or management. A Master’s degree is preferred.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:

Required: None.

Preferred: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving check.
