Job summary

The City and Borough of Sitka is seeking a part-time crossing guard to help pedestrians safely navigate downtown sidewalks during cruise ship visitation days. The role involves guiding traffic, signaling crossings, and enforcing safety rules.

Must be 18+, obtain Flagging Level 1 Certification within 14 days of hire, and pass a certification exam funded by the employer. Work outdoors 10 AM to 4 PM and some weekends; benefits are not offered.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must obtain Flagging Level 1 Certification within 14 days of hire.
• Pass flagger certification exam; test paid by employer.

Responsibilities

• Deter jaywalking using verbal instruction, hand signs, or other traffic safety devices.
• Direct pedestrians to the nearest designated crossing.
• Guide and control pedestrian traffic at designated crossings using hand signals, signs, and other control devices.
• Monitor traffic flow and identify potential hazards.
• Make pedestrians aware of traffic safety rules and procedures.
• Provide assistance to downtown visitors.
