Job summary

Zoetis is seeking a Scientist for Downstream Bioprocess Development in Kalamazoo, MI. You will develop and optimize downstream processes for veterinary biologics antigens and recombinant proteins, working hands-on at the bench and collaborating across cross-functional teams.

The role requires experience with chromatography, filtration, DoE, and scalable GMP transfer. Strong communication and aseptic technique are essential as you support both mammalian and bacterial expression systems.

Qualifications

• Education: BSc/MSc in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Experience: BSc: 5–7 years in downstream processing (DSP), MSc: 3–5 years in DSP.
• Experience with downstream processing, chromatography and filtration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize downstream processes for biologics antigen production and purification.
• Execute and troubleshoot chromatography and filtration steps.
• Perform DoE-based process characterization and optimization.
• Support purification of antigens and concentration of viral/bacterial materials for vaccine development.
• Partner with pilot/manufacturing teams to scale and transfer to GMP environments.
• Author protocols, study reports and tech transfer documents.
• Represent DSP in interdisciplinary teams and provide technical recommendations.
• Maintain electronic notebooks and SOP-compliant documentation.
