Job summary

VNACJ Community Health Center is hiring a Doula to support patients through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. The Doula will educate, advocate, and provide steady emotional and physical support, traveling between Asbury Park, Red Bank, Freehold, and Keyport locations to ensure consistent care.

The role requires a current Doula certification, CPR, and a high school diploma or GED, with strong communication and cultural humility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Doula Certification from a recognized program.
• Knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, infant feeding, and postpartum care.
• Experience working with diverse, underserved, high‑risk populations.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to support patients during long or unpredictable labor and on‑call hours.
• Strong emotional resilience and ability to work in high‑intensity birth environments.
• Experience in community health, maternal‑child health, or public health settings.
• Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish and/or Haitian Creole).
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Provide prenatal education and support regarding pregnancy, birth preparation, and postpartum expectations.
• Assist patients in understanding available maternal health services and community resources.
• Support birth preferences and assist during labor and birth at affiliated facilities.
• Provide continuous emotional support and continuity of care throughout pregnancy.
• Provide postpartum emotional support and guidance on infant feeding and newborn care.
• Assist patients in navigating community resources such as WIC and social services.
• Maintain documentation in CHC records in line with policies.
