Description
The position of DOT Driver & Traffic Control Laborer is a regular full-time, hourly role that is responsible for safely operating Company DOT trucks and fleet vehicles to and from assigned job sites, supporting temporary traffic control operations, and performing general telecommunications construction labor duties as assigned. This position works out of the Statham, Georgia office and reports directly to the assigned Traffic Control Foreman. This position works a regular schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with regular travel throughout the state of Georgia to support field-based traffic control and telecommunications construction operations at various job sites. As a condition of employment, this position may be required to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs, and may require overnight travel to other job sites.
Responsibilities
Traffic Control Operations
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including cones, barrels, signs, barricades, arrow boards, and message boards.
- Implement traffic control plans (TCPs) in accordance with project specifications, approved plans, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Direct vehicles and pedestrians safely through and around work zones using approved flagging techniques.
- Monitor work zones to ensure continued compliance and safety and adjust traffic control devices as job site conditions change.
- Communicate effectively with crew members and the public regarding traffic flow and safety concerns.
Company Vehicle & DOT Driving Duties
- Safely operate assigned Company DOT trucks and fleet vehicles to and from assigned job sites while complying with all applicable local, state, federal, and DOT driving requirements.
- Complete assigned pre-trip and post-trip inspections for Company trucks and fleet vehicles and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain required DOT driver documentation, logs, and vehicle-related records accurately and in accordance with Company procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
Safety Compliance
- Follow all applicable OSHA, MUTCD, DOT, state, local, and Company safety requirements.
- Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and tailboard meetings.
- Identify and report unsafe work conditions immediately.
- Maintain awareness of live traffic hazards and construction risks.
Construction Labor Support
- Perform general job site cleanup and material handling.
- Load and unload traffic control and construction materials.
- Perform other construction, traffic control, and job site support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification
- Completion of a High School Diploma or attainment of a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).
- Valid Class C driver’s license with no disqualifying restrictions and an acceptable driving record.
- As a condition of employment, must be able to meet applicable DOT English language proficiency requirements.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 1 - 2 years of traffic control experience.
- Valid flagger certification (ATSSA or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of MUTCD standards and state/local traffic regulations.
- Preferred certifications include both OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
Qualifications & Characteristics
- Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screening, including any DOT-required testing, as applicable to the position.
- Applicants must be able to wear personal protective equipment (“PPE”) when on job sites or other locations as directed.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in warehouse, yard and outdoors jobsites for up to a 12-hour shift.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with a commitment to safety & quality.
Work Environment
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions, including humidity and seasonal temperature changes, with exposure to heights, confined spaces, active equipment, and other job site conditions.
- Must be able and willing to travel out of town and stay overnight as required by project assignments; this is a condition of employment.
