Job summary

Vermont Catholic Schools Office Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, Vermont seeks a dedicated Residence Hall Dorm Parent for the 10-month residential position. You will live in the dorm, supervise students, ensure safety, coordinate with the nurse, and support a positive campus culture.

The role requires flexible hours including evenings and weekends; prior experience in residential life or youth mentorship is preferred.

Position Overview

Rice Memorial High School, a co-educational Catholic college preparatory school serving grades 9 through post-graduate, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as a Residence Hall Proctor (Dorm Parent). This role is central to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive living environment for students in our boarding program.

Responsibilities

• Live in the residence hall during the academic year.
• Be available for various shifts (day, evening/overnight, weekends, holidays, school breaks) as scheduled. The expectation is to work three nights a week.
• Build a positive and inclusive dormitory culture.
• Perform safety and wellness checks, including rounds, lights out, and room checks.
• Provide first aid or facilitate medical care in coordination with the school nurse or local medical facilities.
• Uphold and enforce boarding program rules and routines.
• Manage administrative tasks while on duty (phones, forms, attendance, filing, etc.).
• Supervise and support student events, activities, and outings.
• Help drive shuttle buses for student pickup and drop-off as scheduled.
• Conducting routine room visits and check-ins during study hall/quiet hours
• Engage students in a hospitable and culturally respectful environment.
• Foster open communication and support students' social and emotional development.
• Plan and coordinate regular dorm community events with the director of residential life.
• Attend orientation and training before school opens and other professional development throughout the school year.
• Work collaboratively with other dorm parents and school staff.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision-making, especially under pressure.
