Job summary

The Humane Rescue Alliance seeks a Development Officer to build, manage, and grow philanthropic relationships across the Washington, D.C. region. You will steward 120–150 individual donors and corporate partners, tailoring approaches to drive increased giving and donor retention.

You will lead cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship activities, collaborating with internal teams to prepare proposals and materials for major philanthropic gifts. A strong fundraising background is essential.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive fundraising experience.
• Experience managing a donor portfolio and securing significant gifts (preferably $5,000+).
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience in animal welfare or mission-driven nonprofits preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and grow a portfolio of 120–150 donors and prospects.
• Develop cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
• Conduct donor meetings, calls, and tours to build relationships.
• Solicit philanthropic gifts and prepare donor materials with internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to retain, upgrade, and deepen donor relationships.
• Build a strong pipeline for future giving and planned gifts.
