Job summary

Humane Rescue Alliance seeks a Development Officer to build and grow philanthropic relationships across the Washington, D.C. region. You will manage a portfolio of 120–150 donors and corporate partners, cultivating relationships that increase gifts and retention.

This frontline fundraising role requires relationship-building, strategic solicitation, and collaboration with internal teams to advance the mission and impact of HRA.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive fundraising or donor-relations experience.
• Experience managing a donor portfolio and securing significant gifts.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent.
• Experience in animal welfare or mission-driven nonprofits preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of approximately 120–150 donors and corporate partners to grow giving and retention.
• Develop personalized cultivation and stewardship strategies based on donor interests and capacity.
• Schedule and conduct donor meetings, campus tours, and cultivation visits.
• Solicit significant gifts and prepare donor materials in partnership with internal teams.
• Identify opportunities to retain, upgrade, and deepen donor relationships.
• Qualify new prospects and build a robust pipeline for future gifts.
• Collaborate with executives on strategy and major gift solicitation.
• Maintain accurate donor records and next steps in the fundraising database.
