Job summary

The Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to shape how HRA is seen through social media, press materials, and community conversations. You will develop engaging content, manage day-to-day channels, and respond to inquiries while coordinating with the Marketing team to stay on-brand.

You’ll build relationships with reporters, elected officials, and sponsors, prepare spokespeople, and help plan events and activations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in communications or public affairs at nonprofits.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for routine media inquiries.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, statements, and background materials.
  • Coordinate interviews and prepare briefing materials for spokespeople.
  • Monitor media coverage and maintain tracking reports.
  • Coordinate meetings with elected officials and community leaders.
  • Plan events and manage sponsor activations.
  • Manage and steward sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Represent HRA at community events and civic meetings.
