Job summary

American Humane Society seeks a Chief Development Officer to lead the development function and drive revenue aligned with the 2030 Strategic Plan. You will cultivate top donors, build partnerships, and work closely with the COO and CEO to advance strategic fundraising initiatives and global donor engagement.

The role requires a strategic leader who can mentor a high-performing team, leverage data-driven strategies, and represent the organization at major events and forums.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of senior fundraising leadership experience.
  • Proven track record meeting or exceeding fundraising and budget goals.
  • Experience identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high-level donors.
  • CFRE certification preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for philanthropic revenue; lead fundraising strategies aligned with the 2030 Strategic Plan.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of high-level donors (individual, corporate, foundation).
  • Develop and execute fundraising plans in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Represent American Humane at events and meetings and communicate the organization's mission.
