Job summary

El Museo del Barrio in New York City is seeking a Development Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative support to the Institutional Advancement team. You will manage the donor database, calendars, files, and event logistics, contributing to donor cultivation with precision in a bilingual environment.

The role requires fluency in Spanish and English, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information, with occasional evenings/weekends for events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant administrative experience.
  • One to three years of administrative, development, or nonprofit experience; museum experience a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, written and spoken, is required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Raiser's Edge/NXT strongly preferred; comfort learning new systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and professional donor relations.
  • Discretion handling confidential information and ability to work evenings and weekends for events.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain donor database (Raiser's Edge/NXT) and update constituent records, gifts, and contact reports.
  • Manage calendars, scheduling for Head of Institutional Advancement and development team; coordinate meetings and agendas.
  • Organize electronic and physical files; prepare documents, letters, and briefing materials in house style.
  • Support development events and donor cultivation: Gala, openings, and patron events; manage guest lists and RSVPs.
  • Collaborate across museum teams to ensure accurate, coordinated fundraising work and project support.
