Job summary

Community Blood Center is seeking a Donor Room Assistant to support donor interviews, collect samples, and ensure safe blood collection procedures. You will document vital signs, maintain donor confidentiality, and assist with post-donation care and transport of specimens.

The role requires flexible hours, strong English communication, and a willingness to handle donor questions and routine paperwork. Experience in a health-related field and phlebotomy certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required or preferred.
• Medical Assistant degree is a plus.
• Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
• Flexibility in work hours is essential.

Responsibilities

• Performs donor interview and evaluates suitability of donor for donation based on SOP criteria.
• Determines donor hemoglobin via finger-stick sample.
• Takes and documents donor blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
• Performs blood collection procedures according to SOPs, including QC, skin prep, phlebotomy, tube samples and needle removal.
• Attends to donor comfort and safety post donation and notifies supervisor if there are reactions or complications.
• Maintains confidentiality of donor information.
• Labels blood collection materials per SOP.
• Cares for blood after collection and transports to the center when needed.
• Assists with loading/unloading equipment and supplies as applicable.
• Complies with CBC safety policies and procedures.
• Provides excellent customer service to donors and community members.
• Maintains professional appearance and punctual attendance.
• Communicates clearly in English with the public and CBC staff.
