Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services is seeking a Medical Support Specialist to support plasma center operations. You will determine donor eligibility, assess donor safety, review lab results, and notify donors of unsuitable outcomes.

You will work under the Center Manager and Center Physician, following SOPs for medical emergencies and coordinating with Medical Affairs for medical or technical guidance. This role includes vaccination program support and incident management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program.
• Licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P, LPN/LVN, RN.
• Current CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
• Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility; proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and SPE review.
• Evaluate donor reaction(s) at the facility and follow SOPs for medical emergencies including standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and coordinate with occupational health/ER; refer to EHS guidance.
• May serve as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist investigations.
