SUMMARY:Donation Attendants operate Attended Donation Centers (ADCs) and receive donated goods from the public. This role assists donors, ensures proper sorting of donations, and prepares materials for transportation to the distribution center.At Goodwill, we are Investing in People, Strengthening Communities—and this role supports the mission of Improving People’s Lives Through the Power of Work with the critical role of donor engagement and donation recovery.REPORTS TO:Distribution Manager/ Distribution Assistant ManagerESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Donor Service & Mission RepresentationGreets donors promptly and provides friendly, professional customer service.Assists donors with unloading donated items from vehicles.Communicates Goodwill’s mission and donation guidelines to donors as appropriate.Provides accurate donation receipts according to agency procedures.Tactfully accepts or declines donated items according to established acceptance criteria.Donation Intake & SortingPre-sorts donated items into designated containers according to classification guidelines.Labels and stages containers to ensure safe and efficient transportation to the warehouse.Breaks down cardboard and properly disposes of trash or unusable materials.Maintains donation logs and records donation activity accurately.Site Operations & OrganizationOpens and secures the donation center according to operational procedures.Performs required morning and evening check-in calls and completes daily operational reports.Maintains cleanliness and organization of the donation site including the building, trailer, and surrounding area.Ensures containers and staging areas remain organized to support efficient transportation pickup.Monitors donation volume and notifies distribution leadership when containers approach capacity.Transportation CoordinationAssists Goodwill transportation staff with loading or unloading donations when trucks arrive.Ensures containers are properly staged and ready for scheduled pickups.Safety & SecurityUses required PPE and follows safe lifting and material handling procedures.Identifies and reports safety hazards or operational concerns promptly.Safeguards agency property including donated goods and site equipment.Reports accidents, incidents, theft, or suspicious activity immediately according to agency procedures.Professional ExpectationsMaintains a professional appearance and adheres to agency dress code standards.Participates in required safety drills, training sessions, and operational meetings.Performs additional duties as assigned to support donation center operations.Physical Demands and Work Environment:The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Prior customer service experience preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: N/AScreenings: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Ability to provide friendly, professional customer service and represent the Goodwill mission positively to donors and the public.Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities at a remote donation site with minimal supervision.Knowledge of donation acceptance guidelines and the ability to tactfully accept or decline donated items.Ability to safely handle donated goods using proper lifting techniques and required personal protective equipment (PPE).Ability to organize and pre-sort donated items according to established procedures.Ability to maintain accurate donation records and issue receipts.Ability to identify and report safety hazards, operational concerns, or suspicious activity.Ability to perform physical work including lifting, sorting, and moving donated goods in indoor and outdoor environments.
