Job summary

St. Paul and Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (SPIP) is seeking a Domestic Violence Legal Advocate to provide legal advocacy for victims within criminal justice processes and Order for Protection matters.

The role includes safety planning, crisis support, and both in-person and remote service delivery. The incumbent supports 24/7 crisis line victim services, maintains records, and collaborates with community agencies to advance the program’s mission, with occasional on-call and

Qualifications

• Sensitivity to the needs of victims and the obstacles they face.
• Experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to provide respectful, non-judgmental, caring, and supportive services.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Must have access to a car, valid driver’s license and adequate/up-to-date auto insurance.
• Must agree to a background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advocacy to participants within the criminal justice system.
• Provide legal advocacy to participants with Order for Protection/family court issues.
• Provide participants with safety planning and crisis support.
• Provide participants with transitional and ongoing support services.
• Provide face-to-face and remote participant services.
• Maintain timely and accurate work documentation and records.
• Participate in trainings, community education and events.
• Support the program’s growth and development.
• Strengthen relationships with community-based and government agencies.
• Contribute to an effective work team and a positive work environment – focusing on the agency’s mission and furthering its goals and objectives.
