The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Mechanics will also be responsible for documenting, completing, and maintaining current maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. The position may require performing road rescue as needed.
This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.
Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.). Perform preventative maintenance within company standards. Complete documentation of repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability. Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed. Keep track of repairs by logging in and out of the Shop Fax system. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety regulations and government guidelines. Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping. Be prepared to back up other maintenance shop personnel and assume increased responsibilities and certifications as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include having at least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic or reefer mechanic, or a combination of both; or 2 years of verifiable experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both. Demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, independent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and experience in administering PM programs are required.
Applicants must furnish their own personal hand tools. CDL A and DOT certification are preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, ability to read and understand technical manuals, excellent communication and teamwork skills, multitasking in a fast-paced environment, adaptability, computer proficiency, and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
