Mechanic will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the fleet road equipment including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Mechanics will also be responsible for documenting, completing, and maintaining current maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. The position may require performing road rescue as needed.
This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.
Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing repairs on diesel equipment such as tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, and lift gates. Perform preventative maintenance within company standards, document all repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability. Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed. Keep track of repairs by logging into and out of the Shop Fax system. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety rules, regulations, and government guidelines. Manage inventory and proper recordkeeping. Provide backup support to other maintenance shop personnel. Be willing to assume increased responsibilities and certifications. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include at least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years of experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both. Demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, independent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and experience in administering preventive maintenance programs are required.
Must furnish own personal hand tools. CDL A and DOT certification are preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, the ability to read and understand technical manuals, excellent communication and teamwork skills, multitasking in a fast-paced environment, adaptability, computer proficiency, and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime.
