Mechanic will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the fleet road equipment including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. The role requires ensuring compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Mechanics will also document, complete, and keep current maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. The position may require performing road rescue as needed.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing all required repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).
  2. Performing preventative maintenance within company standards.
  3. Completing documentation of all repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability.
  4. Handling road service calls and performing road rescue/transport as needed.
  5. Logging repairs and service activities in the Shop Fax system.
  6. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  7. Managing inventory and recordkeeping.
  8. Providing backup support to other maintenance shop personnel.
  9. Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and obtain additional certifications.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • At least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic or reefer mechanic, or a combination of both; or 2 years of verifiable experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in administering preventative maintenance programs.

Additional requirements:

  • Must furnish own personal hand tools.
  • CDL A and DOT certification are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations related to shop and fleet operations.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability to changing organizational needs.
  • Computer literacy and experience with relevant software.
  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends; overtime may be required.
