Position: Part‑Time Dockworker (Indianapolis Terminal)
Pay: $25.81 per hour starting, increasing to $28.65 per hour on first anniversary.
Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 6:00 am start; Monday–Friday 5:00 pm start.
Position Summary
Convey freight to and from trailers and storage areas by hand or with the assistance of forklifts and hand trucks.
Essential Functions
- Have command of the English language and the ability to read, write, perform simple mathematics, handle receipts, read shipping labels, and follow loading instructions.
- Load and unload freight according to DOT requirements on and off trucks by hand or using hand trucks, dollies, or forklifts.
- Sort and secure items on trucks or at the dock to meet DOT requirements and prevent damage.
- Lift various materials such as cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, pipe, bars, rugs, etc.
- Use material handling tools such as forklifts, carts, dollies, banding machines, shrink‑wrap tubes, pallet jacks, and tow motors.
- Perform standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting, carrying, bending, reaching, and lifting both above and below waist level.
- Conduct heavy lifting as required.
- Work safely and professionally to reduce personal and employee risk.
- Comply with federal, state, and company regulations.
- Process all paperwork associated with the job daily and be available to work; exceptions require management approval.
- Work positively, supportively, and cooperatively at all times, and perform other duties as directed.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum age of 18.
- High school completion or equivalent.
- Pass a non‑DOT physical examination and functional screen.
- Consent to a pre‑employment drug screen with a negative result required.
- Ability to read and write English and perform simple mathematics.
- Lift 50 lbs frequently and 100+ lbs infrequently.
- Consent to a ten‑year work‑history check; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained.
- Employment will be at‑will; no guarantee of tenure.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Lift various materials such as cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, pipe, bars, rugs, etc.
- Use forklifts, carts, dollies, banding machines, shrink‑wrap tubes, pallet jacks, and tow motors.
- Stand, walk, squat, push, pull, twist, carry, bend at the waist, reach, and lift both above and below waist level.
- Operate a forklift, pallet jack, load lock, and two‑wheel hand cart.
- Lift, set down, slide, or move weights that may exceed 80 lbs unassisted.
- Sit and stand for prolonged periods.
- Safely enter and exit trailers, vans, flatbeds, forklifts, and tractors.
- Work around and operate motorized equipment.
- Perform essential functions in extreme hot or cold temperatures and dusty conditions.
