Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Dock Supervisor to oversee daily operations, safety, and efficiency across a shift within our freight network. You will manage dock teams, use OD technology to track shipments, and uphold high standards for performance and service.

The role emphasizes leadership, safety compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, and continuous improvement. You will collaborate with the Operations Manager to align with business objectives and foster our OD family culture.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent required; some college preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred for career advancement.
• 2 years of operations experience, ideally in transportation.
• Ability to supervise and develop a team.
• Working knowledge of AS400, DYMS, BLU and MS Office.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily dock operations, safety, and efficiency across the shift.
• Monitor loading/unloading safety, housekeeping and productivity.
• Assign and supervise dock employees to meet standards and schedules.
• Collaborate with Operations Manager and Service Center Manager on objectives.
• Provide feedback on performance metrics and process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA and DOT regulations.
• Verify 100% correct trailer loading for safe transport.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation and maintenance.
• Operate OD proprietary systems and monitor shipment movement.
• Attend daily shift meetings and adjust schedules as needed.
• Manage time-off requests and daily work schedules.
• Support training and development to grow OD family culture.
• Support qualifications, discipline as needed, and safety actions.
• Adapt to changing schedules and customer pickup/delivery needs.
