Qualifications

  • Prior marina management or dock master experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of boating, marine safety regulations, and marina operations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Oversee maintenance of docks, equipment, and marina infrastructure; manage inventory and liaise with contractors.
  • Maintain logs of marina activity, fuel sales, and work orders; assist budgeting and capital planning.

Job Description

Position Summary: The Dock Master plays a critical role in maintaining the smooth, safe, and welcoming operation of the SPYC Marina. This leadership position is responsible for daily oversight of dock operations, member and guest services, marina maintenance, and management of marina staff. The Dock Master reports to the Harbormaster and ensures an exceptional waterfront experience aligned with the high standards of SPYC, while preserving the safety and functionality of the marina.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Marina Operations Management:
    • Oversee daily marina and dock operations, including vessel docking, fueling, pump-out services, and general maintenance.
    • Coordinate with members, guests, and visiting yachts to ensure smooth arrivals, departures, and stays.
    • Monitor weather conditions and communicate advisories to boaters and staff.
    • Maintain orderly and safe dock conditions at all times.
  • Team Leadership & Training:
    • Supervise, schedule, and train dock staff to provide excellent service and uphold safety protocols.
    • Foster a positive team environment focused on professionalism and member satisfaction.
  • Member & Guest Relations:
    • Serve as the point of contact for marina-related member and guest inquiries.
    • Deliver exceptional hospitality, assisting with docking, reservations, and concierge services.
    • Support club events and regattas with marina logistics and race committee coordination.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Enforce marina rules, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
    • Conduct routine safety inspections and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • Coordinate emergency response procedures, including hurricane preparedness and recovery.
  • Maintenance & Asset Management:
    • Oversee maintenance of docks, equipment, and marina infrastructure.
    • Manage inventory of dock supplies, fuel, and maintenance materials.
    • Coordinate repairs and liaise with contractors as needed.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate logs of marina activity, fuel sales, and work orders.
    • Assist in budgeting, reporting, and capital improvement planning for the marina.

Qualifications:

  • Prior marina management or dock master experience required (Yacht club environment preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of boating, marine safety regulations, and marina operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficient in marina management software and basic computer skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor environment with exposure to weather elements.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and operating marine equipment.
  • Fast-paced environment, particularly during club events and peak boating seasons.
