Job summary

FedEx Freight in Portland, ME is seeking a dock worker to transport freight across the dock area and prepare loads for trailers.

Responsibilities include operating forklift and pallet jack, verifying freight documentation, securing freight with straps, and assisting customers with shipments. The role requires physical work in a dock environment and adherence to safety and company policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience in warehousing or forklift operations preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times per week, to lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.
• Work independently and/or as a team member.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck to move freight.
• Verify freight descriptions and documentation.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup or repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and documentation.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
