Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dock associate in Portland, ME to transport freight between dock areas and trailers and to assist with loading and documentation. Hourly base is starting at $22.26 with a potential to reach $26.04 depending on duties and location.

The role requires operating forklift and pallet jacks, inspecting freight, and ensuring accurate paperwork. Full-time with varied hours; benefits include health, retirement, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling or forklift experience preferred.
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week and lift up to ~100 lb dock plates.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight throughout shift.
• Work independently and/or as part of a team.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Operate motorized and manual equipment including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazards) using current system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
