Job summary

Denton County is seeking a Director of Epidemiology to lead the county's epidemiology operations, directing disease surveillance, outbreak investigations, epidemiologic analysis, and data reporting to support timely, data-driven public health decisions.

The role oversees epidemiology staff, develops protocols, and communicates actionable findings to leadership, partners, and the public, coordinating with healthcare providers, agencies, labs, and community partners to strengthen response efforts.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related field.
• Five years of experience in epidemiologic analysis, disease surveillance, communicable disease investigation, outbreak response, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Direct disease surveillance activities by overseeing data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
• Lead outbreak investigations and response efforts by assessing information and coordinating activities.
• Supervise epidemiology staff by assigning work, evaluating performance, and supporting staff development.
• Develop and implement epidemiologic policies, procedures, and protocols to standardize data collection and reporting.
• Interpret findings and communicate trends, risks, and recommendations to leadership, stakeholders, and the public.
