Job description

A large, growing manufacturer and distributor is seeking a Divisional Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for a significant business unit with approximately $500 million in annual revenue.

This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for accounting operations across two major locations, with the majority of the business based in the Charlotte area. The Divisional Controller will oversee a team of accounting professionals and partner closely with operational and corporate leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective inventory and cost accounting, and continued process improvement.

The organization is looking for an experienced Controller who has operated in a large-scale manufacturing or distribution environment and is comfortable balancing detailed accounting responsibilities with broader business partnership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for a business unit generating approximately $500 million in annual revenue.
  • Oversee the monthly close process and preparation of financial statements, management reporting, and supporting analysis.
  • Manage accounting activities across multiple locations while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to company policies and U.S. GAAP.
  • Provide leadership and development to a team of approximately 4-5 accounting professionals.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, including inventory valuation, cycle counts, cost and operational variances, and related analysis.
  • Manage intercompany accounting and other general ledger activities.
  • Partner with operational leaders to understand financial performance, identify trends, and improve business results.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and provide insight into key drivers impacting financial performance.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditure planning, and other financial analysis as needed.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on process improvement and other initiatives impacting the accounting organization.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support financial statement audit requirements.
  • Assist with financial systems, reporting tools, and other projects designed to improve the efficiency and scalability of the finance organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Prior experience as a Plant Controller, Divisional Controller, Site Controller, or similar accounting leader strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting a sizable business unit or operation.
  • Strong manufacturing and/or distribution industry experience.
  • Solid understanding of inventory and cost accounting within an operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
  • CPA and a combination of public accounting and corporate accounting experience are preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with large data sets and explain the drivers behind financial results.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another large ERP environment is beneficial.
  • Advanced Excel skills required. Experience with financial reporting and BI tools is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively partner with both accounting and operational leadership.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the accounting function for a large business while joining an organization undergoing an exciting period of change and integration.

The role offers meaningful scale, leadership responsibility, and exposure to both corporate and operational finance. It should be particularly attractive to a Plant or Divisional Controller who wants to step into a larger operation while remaining close to the business and maintaining significant ownership of the accounting function.
