As the company continues to scale, we are seeking a Controller to lead and strengthen the accounting organization and ensure the financial infrastructure can support continued growth.

The Controller will oversee the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and accounting policies across a complex, multi-entity environment. This is a highly visible leadership position for an accounting professional who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, acquisitive organization and can balance strategic leadership with a hands-on approach.

The ideal candidate has experience in a large, complex organization, understands the operational demands of a service-based business, and has successfully led accounting teams through periods of significant growth and transformation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions across a large, multi-entity organization.
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, driving accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and other core accounting functions.
  • Ensure financial statements are prepared accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Establish and improve processes designed to support continued revenue growth and increased organizational complexity.
  • Partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership team on financial performance, reporting, and business initiatives.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing accounting organization, including hiring, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Improve the speed and efficiency of the month-end close while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Oversee accounting integration for acquisitions, including opening balances, chart of accounts, systems, policies, and processes.
  • Partner with operations, finance, HR, IT, and other business leaders to improve financial processes and reporting.
  • Support annual audits, tax compliance, banking relationships, and other external financial requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place across a rapidly expanding organization.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes through technology and ERP optimization.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and other financial planning initiatives as needed.
  • Develop meaningful reporting and KPIs that provide management with visibility into business performance.
  • Serve as a key financial partner to operational leadership across the organization.
  • Support special projects related to acquisitions, organizational growth, systems implementations, and finance transformation.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead a large accounting organization and establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Build a scalable accounting infrastructure capable of supporting continued growth.
  • Develop managers and accounting leaders throughout the organization.
  • Create consistency in accounting processes and best practices across locations and business units.
  • Foster a culture focused on accuracy, accountability, process improvement, and customer service to the business.
Ideal Candidate
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
  • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Division Controller, or similar senior accounting leader.
  • Experience working within a large, complex, multi-entity organization.
  • Experience in HVAC, mechanical services, construction, facilities services, field services, industrial services, or another project/service-based environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing sizable accounting teams.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Proven track record of improving close processes, accounting operations, and financial controls.
  • Experience supporting acquisitions and integrating newly acquired businesses is highly desirable.
