Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a SPED Teacher for 4th-5th grade to support Diverse Learners. Under the principal's supervision, you'll design instruction, monitor progress, and manage behavior to create an inclusive classroom aligned with CPS standards.

You will collaborate with case managers and general education teachers, set IEP goals, and maintain safe, engaging environments while promoting equity and high expectations for all students.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Completion of the CPS online application and teaching profile at cps.edu/teach
• A valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, with the appropriate endorsement(s) for the role - information on obtaining a valid teacher license can be found at isbe.net/licensure

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a deep understanding of content, pedagogy, and student knowledge to select learning objectives and design coherent instruction and assessments.
• Create an environment for effective student learning by establishing a respectful classroom culture with strong management of student behaviors and procedures.
• Respond to the needs of all students by designing engaging instruction with appropriately challenging questions and assessments.
• Exhibit strong communication and professional judgment in interactions with administration, colleagues, families, and students.
• Prioritize student safety through consistent implementation of school rules and discipline systems.
• Personalize student learning through mastery and use of curriculum resources and technology as available.
• Advocate for equity, high expectations, and developmental appropriateness for all learners including those with special needs.
