Job summary

Ann Arbor Public Schools is seeking a district-wide afternoon custodian for 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment in multiple buildings.

Responsibilities include daily cleaning, restrooms, floors, dusting, stocking supplies, reporting maintenance needs, and coordinating with site administration.

A high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to lift 60 pounds, pass a physical and drug screen, and a positive, flexible attitude are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must pass physical exam and drug screen.
• Able to lift up to 60 pounds.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal directions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and contractors.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and safety practices.
• Willingness to learn location of valves and emergency shut-offs.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned rooms, offices, entryways, restrooms, and specialized areas daily using appropriate tools and supplies.
• Clean windows, fixtures, and other surfaces regularly and as needed.
• Clean restrooms daily, including disinfecting fixtures and replenishing supplies.
• Sweep halls and clean hard floors on schedule with chemicals and floor machines.
• Mop floors in assigned areas to remove dirt, spills, and moisture.
• Clean and dust horizontal surfaces as assigned, including desks and counters.
• Maintain custodial equipment to ensure longevity and report malfunctions.
• Secure the building after daily activities and manage access during events.
• If last in building, secure exterior entryways and set alarms.
• Assist with snow removal during winter weather when required.
• Report vandalism to Head Custodian and administrator.
• Report maintenance needs to Head Custodian and Director of Facilities.
• Prepare weekly supply orders and submit to Head Custodian.
• Work with District Maintenance to ensure service delivery.
• Perform additional duties as requested by administration.
