Job summary

Univar Solutions is seeking a District Transportation Manager to act as the primary transportation liaison within a defined district. You will manage a ~$7M P&L, lead private fleet and common carrier operations, and collaborate with commercial and operations leadership to meet capacity and cost targets.

You will develop route plans, optimize carrier utilization, and drive on-time delivery while managing budgeting, fleet assets, and KPI performance across multiple locations in California.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree/MBA strongly preferred
• Minimum 3–5 years of logistics/supply-chain experience
• Experience in HAZMAT and tanker transportation operations strongly desired
• Distribution environment experience preferred
• Multi-modal transportation experience including TL and LTL and related regulatory/operational issues
• Multi-year experience leading private fleets with demonstrated efficiency
• Budgeting (P&L) experience
• In-depth SAP and SAPTM system knowledge
• Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong interpersonal skills
• Results-driven with ability to prioritize and problem-solve in a multi-tasking environment
• Strong analytical and negotiating skills
• Leadership and influence across regions, departments, and vendors
• Ability to lead and implement process and organizational change
• Collaboration across operations, transportation planning, and commercial teams
• 75% travel required

Responsibilities

• Directly responsible for maintaining an efficient, cost-advantaged private fleet across multiple locations
• Enhance driver DOT HOS
• Develop and lead route plans to reduce CPM on private fleets
• Manage mode mix and carrier relationships
• Develop retention and recruiting strategies for the private fleet
• Develop lane-level sourcing strategy across Private, Common, and dedicated fleets
• Negotiate truckload rates with common carriers to manage costs
• Provide interface and direction for common carriers on issues and improvements
• Implement on-time delivery strategies
• Oversee regional carrier relationships and drive compliance and timely payments
• Define capacity requirements for near-term to long-term horizons
• Ensure capacity to support a 20% volume surge using various carrier solutions
• Collaborate with regional DTMs and national procurement for capacity needs
• Guide branch ops on efficient private fleet use
• Develop capital replacement plans for private fleet assets
• Deliver annual operating plans and cost-saving objectives
• Maintain accountability for SPOT rate transactions
