This position reports to the District Engineer for the District 2 office in Nash County and will function as a project inspector conducting independent inspections of driveway permits and encroachments; reviews safety and environmental related items and will perform routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and utility construction processes and materials to assure compliance with contract agreements, standards and specifications. Safety toe shoes required.
Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors and public. Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Ability to work in close proximity to high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Accurately maintain daily records of work accomplished.
Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07/ $37,377 - $65,408

Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
