Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a District Sign Specialist to perform sign installation, maintenance, and related duties on state and federal highways. The role involves after-hours on-call for emergencies, weather-enabled operations, and vehicle/equipment upkeep, with a Class D Chauffeur's License required.

Appointments can be Probational or Promotional in DOTD District 04 Traffic Operations, with hourly compensation of $17.18 for Specialist 1 or $19.67

Qualifications

• No experience or training is required.
• Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License.

Responsibilities

• Performs all sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all State and Federal Highways in accordance with the MUTCD and DOTD manuals.
• Helps determine exact placement of signs based on field conditions for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing.
• Maintains daily work orders and GPS readings, tracks truck inventory, uses PDA devices, installs barricades for traffic control, and clears obscured signs.
• Obtains training listed in PPM# 59 and any additional training as required.
• Performs miscellaneous duties to ensure smooth operation of the crew and enters PDA/GPS data into databases.
• Special Duty: May perform other duties including emergency/disaster support activities.
