Job summary

Elk River Independent School District 728 is seeking a Head Cook for district-wide food service operations. The role supervises kitchen staff, plans and prepares nutritious lunches, and ensures safety, sanitation, and timely service.

Starting wage is $24.25 per hour. The position requires leadership in a school-food-service environment, HACCP compliance, inventory management, and collaboration with school staff and community.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Proven supervisory and organizational skills.
• Solid math skills for reports.
• Level III School Food Service Certification required or to be completed.
• Knowledge of menu planning, meal evaluation, and sanitation methods.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (50+ pounds).
• Serv Safe certification desirable but must be attained within six months.
• Experience with institutional/quantity cooking (1–3 years).
• Training and/or use of computer equipment is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the main dish and supervises others to meet schedule.
• Supervises counter setup and meal service for timely service.
• Supervises cleanup to prep for next day.
• Takes inventory, rotates stock, orders supplies for a week’s menu.
• Plan for school lunch patterns and adjust recipes; maintain records.
• Work with staff to accommodate special needs and maintain relations.
• Provide work direction and daily guidance to food service workers on site.
• Supervises grocery delivery.
• Follow HACCP plan and maintain required records.
• Work with Manager of Food Service to plan menus.
• Assigned as needed to support operations.
• Provide mentorship to food service staff in supervisory roles.
• Model leadership and provide guidance for customer service and efficiency.
• Provide flexibility in assignments and coverage for vacancies.
• Other duties as assigned.
