Job summary

Westfield Public Schools is seeking a District Mentor Coordinator as part of the Teacher Mentor Program. This internal, part-time role starts immediately and focuses on coordinating induction for new teachers, mentoring supports, and grant activities.

The coordinator will work with building coordinators, principals, and central office to plan training, monitor expenditures, and communicate the value of mentoring to the community.

Qualifications

  • Must understand the program requirements such as training, orientation, observations, conferencing, and ongoing peer support meetings.
  • Committed to the personal growth of new teachers.
  • Understands needs of new teachers, mentors, and the Westfield Public School System regarding mentoring.
  • Shall establish a collaborative relationship with mentors, new teachers, coordinators, principals and central administration.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, oversee and improve the Mentor/New Teacher Induction program and related activities.
  • Work with building coordinators to provide support for mentors and educators new to Westfield Public Schools.
  • Coordinate efforts of all building mentoring programs by communicating with coordinators, principals, and central office.
  • Provide mentor training and oversee mentor training professional development.
  • Write or input to grant opportunities for the mentoring program.
  • Plan and implement grant funded activities, if applicable.
  • Assist in arranging and monitoring grant expenditures.
  • Create materials to assist principals, mentors, and new teachers in their mentoring endeavors.
  • Order materials and supplies relevant to the mentoring program.
  • Constantly communicate to the community the importance of mentoring in training and retaining new teachers.
  • Observe the code of confidentiality between mentor and new teacher.
  • Be involved in providing suggestions and feedback for mentor program enhancement.
  • Attend School Committee/Central Administration meetings as necessary to offer input.
