Job summary

WM's Kettleman Hills hazardous waste facility and McKittrick Landfill require an experienced District Manager to lead safety, operations, and P&L performance across two California sites. This highly visible role oversees a team of managers, drives continuous improvement, and ensures regulatory compliance while optimizing asset utilization and service to customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 4 years of relevant work experience with a high school diploma.
• 5 years in a supervisory role with P&L responsibility.
• RCRA knowledge or certification preferred.

Job Summary:

As the District Manager, you will lead the overall business performance, operations, and profitability of WM's Kettleman Hills hazardous waste facility and McKittrick Landfill. This highly visible leadership role carries full responsibility for safety, environmental compliance, employee development, operational execution, capital planning, and P&L performance across two critical California operations. You'll lead and develop a team of managers and employees while driving continuous improvement, maximizing asset utilization, and ensuring exceptional service to customers and regulatory stakeholders.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced operations leader from environmental services, remediation, hazardous waste, industrial services, oil & gas, mining, construction materials, landfill, or other heavy industry environments. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages the day-to-day operations of the district and provides daily support to managers in ensuring quality and budget performance.
• Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance.
• Executes the Market’s strategic capital budget, ensuring effective use of the budget through asset allocation; ensures appropriate spare ratios and asset disposal.
• Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
• Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent discipline and retraining.
• Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Market Area General Manager and/or Director of Operations.
• Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
• Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
• Engages suppliers in problem solving and participates in suppliers’ improvement processes by providing performance feedback on supplier surveys.
• Minimizes the total number of suppliers used by working with Supplier Partners to eliminate/reduce the number of one-time suppliers.
• Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues.

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay.
