Job summary

Waste Management is seeking a leader to manage day-to-day collection operations at a single site in Elk River, MN. You will drive performance metrics, cost controls, and P&L oversight while coordinating with District leadership.

You will supervise staff, coach and train personnel, and implement action plans to meet safety, service, and savings goals. This role reports to the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Disposal Operations.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or higher is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED plus two years of relevant work experience required.
  • Four years in a supervisory role with P&L responsibility is required in addition to education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day district operations and support Operations Managers to ensure safety, service, and savings.
  • Enforce safety and regulatory compliance per company standards (OSHA and others).
  • Conduct thorough root cause investigations for injuries/incidents and provide coaching/retraining.
  • Manage personnel needs including selection, coaching, discipline, training, performance reviews, and promotions/terminations.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Landfill Operations Managers and/or Supervisors will report directly to this role.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to Operations Managers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Disposal Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree (accredited)
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and two (2) years relevant of work experience
  • 4 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirements).
B. Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 5 years of landfill experience preferred

Pay: The expected salary range for this position is $106,370 - $138,160 per year. This represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay.
