Job summary

WM is seeking a District Manager to oversee day-to-day landfill and disposal operations across multiple sites. You will set performance metrics, manage P&L, and drive safety, efficiency, and cost savings.

The role reports to the Senior District Manager/Director of Disposal Operations and requires 4 years of supervisory/P&L experience, an Associate's Degree, and a high school diploma or GED; a valid driver's license is preferred. You will coach staff and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree is required.
  • High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of related work experience.
  • 4 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility.
  • Preferred: Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day district operations and support Operations Managers.
  • Ensure safety, service and savings; monitor performance metrics and costs.
  • Lead safety initiatives and thorough root-cause investigations for injuries.
  • Hire, coach, discipline, train employees and manage performance.
  • Participate in P&L reviews and optimize equipment and labor costs.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Manages the day-to-day collection operations of a single site or multiple sites or a single Line of Business or multiple Lines of Business, establishes, and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Responsible for P&L. Landfill Operations Managers and/or Supervisors will report directly to this role.

  • Manages the District’s day-to-day operations and provides daily support to Operations Managers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
  • Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Director of Disposal Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
  • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
