Job summary

Palm Beach State College is seeking a District Fire Official to administer and inspect College facilities and construction projects to ensure compliance with Florida Fire Prevention Code and Florida Building Code. About this role

Responsible for administration and inspection of College facilities and construction projects to ensure compliance with county and state fire codes. Inspects equipment, buildings, grounds, and new construction; issuing applicable certifications and reports, providing assistance with construction documents, plan reviews, and permits, and providing expertise to staff, contractors, consultants and vendors.

What a day of a District Fire Official looks like:

  • Conducts construction inspections for compliance with the most current versions of the Florida Fire Prevention Code and Florida Building Code. Provides specialized work on all aspects of fire safety, fire prevention and other areas of life safety.
  • Submits inspection reports to the state followed with itemized, separate work orders for each campus to address deficiencies.
  • Provides annual and pre-event life safety and fire compliance plan reviews and inspections for all "Assembly" occupancies including, but not limited to, outdoor events, tents, sporting events, job fairs, and political rallies. Researches and reviews building specifications for code compliance. Conducts life safety and fire plan reviews for facilities construction projects.
  • Monitors various projects to ensure maximum effectiveness and compliance.
  • Coordinates with local fire departments to ensure compliance and cooperation for any requested facilities inspections.
  • Follows established safety practices. Maintains and performs in a safe workplace.
  • Maintains current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings and professional events outside of college locations, as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Associate’s degree
