Job summary

SciensBuilding Solutions seeks a District Controller to lead day-to-day planning, budgeting, and reporting for multiple locations. This role partners with the VP of Finance and operates as a key business partner across all functions, driving financial strategy and improving controls.

The District Controller will manage GAAP compliance, annual audits, and regulatory requirements while guiding management with timely financial insights and performance analysis to support strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required; CPA preferred; MBA is a plus.
  • 5–10+ years of experience as a Controller across multiple locations.
  • Strong cost accounting skills including standard costing and POC revenue recognition.
  • Solid inventory management experience.
  • Proactive leadership with strategic thinking and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial strategy, budgeting, and policies.
  • Oversee multiple division locations and financial reporting.
  • Lead internal controls and GAAP/compliance.
  • Coordinate external audits and tax compliance.
  • Prepare monthly reporting package for VP Finance.
  • Drive cash flow improvement and working capital.

THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL


SciensBuilding Solutionsseeks aDistrictController, who will haveprimary day-to-day responsibilities for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial and operational reportingfor more than oneSciensDivision location. TheDistrictController is a critical tactical and strategic management position, reporting to theplatform company Vice President of Financeand dotted line reporting to theDivision President. The DistrictController is a key leadership role in the management of the company, as well as in the development and execution of short term and long-term strategy.The company has a collaborative leadership team, and theDistrictController is expected to be a true “business partner” and work effectively across all functional areas. TheDistrictController is also expected to be a positive impact across the company and enhance the culture internally, as well with customers, suppliers and key third parties.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

  • Partners with Vice President of Finance to develop and implement goals, policies, priorities, financial strategy, linked metrics and proceduresin regards tofinancial and operational management including budgeting and accounting.
  • Is responsible for more than oneSciensDivision/location.
  • Establishes sound internal financial management control systems and develops procedures to continuously improve internal control systems.
  • Leads preparation of ongoing required financial statements and operating reports ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAPstandards and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews financial statements and operating reports with all parties of interest,includinggapanalysis and recommendations to improve performance.
  • Overseesand ensurestimely and accurate processing of transactions and accounting data and ensureslegal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
  • Oversees various DOL, IRS, 401(k), and medical compliance regulations.
  • OverseesDCAA and other compliance requirements for any publicly-funded projects.
  • Leads the coordination with CPA firm of preparation of external audit materials, externalGAAPfinancial reporting and all tax compliance and reporting.
  • Managesannual audit and auditor relations.
  • Responsible for monthly business review package, and ownership and deliveryof monthly reporting packageto platform Vice President of Finance.
  • Preparation/analysis of daily/weekly/monthly reports of key financial and operational metric trends.
  • Initiates and optimizes appropriate strategies to enhance cashflow and working capital positions.
  • Assessesorganizational performance against budgets with functional leaders and management team.
  • Managesongoing banking and bonding requirements.
  • Leads ERP system deployment and operation.
  • Responsible to ensure all employees embrace our safety culture and comply with all safety initiatives.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred; MBA desired.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Controller.
  • Experience managing multiple locations.
  • Strong cost accounting skills,including standard costing processes and percentage of completion (POC) revenue recognition.
