Job summary

FirstEnergy’s Jersey Central Power & Light division is seeking a Substation Engineer with strong leadership and analytical skills. The role focuses on safety, capital project coordination, and regulatory compliance across substations in New Jersey.

The successful candidate will coordinate with bargaining unit personnel, manage budgets, and ensure timely delivery of materials and permits while maintaining high customer satisfaction and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 4 years of related work experience, OR Associate's degree and 8 years, OR High School Diploma and 10 years.
• Experience leading initiatives and change implementation.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and procedures to develop work plans.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to safety across Substation staff.
• Coordinate bargaining unit activities guided by policies and business plan.
• Manage work according to business needs, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify capital solutions and review capital orders for time, material and invoicing.
• Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and relationships.
• Coordinate construction and maintenance work activities to meet standards and regulatory requirements.
• Submit switching requests and outage requests in appropriate systems.
• Track regulatory and BES maintenance for Substations using Cascade and Excel.
• Manage Substations Capital Spare Equipment Inventory with Cascade and Excel.
• Provide weekly progress updates on backlog and productivity.
• Plan materials, equipment, and permits to establish work commitment dates.
