Job summary

Evergy is seeking a Project Engineer - Distribution Project Oversight to provide technical oversight and coordination for large capital, asset management, and priority customer projects. You will work across multiple departments and partners to ensure timely, compliant project delivery and adherence to standards and schedules.

The role requires an associate degree with 2+ years of experience; a BS in engineering from an ABET-accredited program is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering or related field
• 2+ years of experience preferred
• ABET-accredited university degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end oversight of capital, asset management, and priority customer projects.
• Coordinate project kickoff, scope alignment, and readiness discussions with stakeholders.
• Identify risks, remove barriers, and resolve issues affecting schedule, budget, or quality.
• Collaborate with planning, asset management, design, construction, and operations teams.
• Review design packages, project deliverables, and contractor work products.
• Assess readiness and risks affecting design, constructability, or resources.
• Review scopes, schedules, and deliverables before moving to next phase.
• Serve as primary contact for external engineering and design firms.
• Monitor contractor performance on design quality, schedule, and compliance.
• Support contractor scorecards, KPI tracking, and design quality evaluations.
• Participate in meetings with customers, contractors, and stakeholders for issue resolution.
• Lead resolution of complex project issues across functions and partners.
• Escalate risks and resource constraints as needed.
• Ensure energization, as-built documentation, GIS updates, and closeout requirements.
• Contribute to developing oversight processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Valid driver's license required and ensure safe driving history.
